Female-Founded Medtech Company Granted Second Patent for Mobile Application
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 3, 2022) – SxanPro, a healthcare supply management technology company, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued U.S. Patent No. 11315680 to Ashlea Souffrou, Chief Executive Officer and founder of SxanPro.
The new patent covers the ability to generate recall alerts from the UDIs at the point of scan via mobile application, a feature that hospitals have increasingly asked for. In addition, the patent expands on the company’s mobile scanning technology for UDI barcodes on medical devices, including the ability to parse serial number, model number, date of manufacture, package type and package quantity from the UDI barcode when scanned in the mobile application.
“Hospitals are relying on the industry to innovate products that improve their processes. The problem of expired and recalled products sitting on hospital shelves exists in every hospital across the United States. SxanPro continues to build on its technology, providing visibility into expiration dates and lot numbers to support the healthcare supply chain and their focus on patient safety.” says Souffrou.
By leveraging UDI based data capture for medical devices, SxanPro’s patented mobile application empowers a hospital’s point in time inventory count, replacing manual, time-consuming processes. The patent strengthens SxanPro’s position as the leading solution provider of point-in-time data capturing technology and paves the way for future innovation and expanded service offerings.
“SxanPro’s technology fills the gap in the process between point of sale and point of use and provides a safeguard for supply chain that expired and recalled products don’t remain on the shelves and risk being used on a patient,” says Rick Ferreria, SxanPro Board of Directors.
This is the second patent granted to Souffrou. The first, U.S. Patent No. 11120399, was issued in September 2021.
